Amber Kearns announced as Mandurah's new mayor

The City of Mandurah has a new mayor.

Amber Kearns won majority of the votes in the 2025 local government election, beating eight other candidates vying for the top job.

Previously an East Ward councillor, Ms Kearns takes the reigns from Caroline Knight.

"I woke up this morning still trying to take it all in, my heart is full and I am just SO grateful!," Ms Kearns posted on her social media on Monday morning.

"Last night I sat with my family and a few close friends, taking a quiet moment to breathe. To everyone who has messaged, called or reached out on social media, thank you. I am working my way through them and will do my best to get back to you soon.

"To our community, thank you! Whether you voted for me or not, your voice matters. Your participation shapes the future we build together. This has never been about one person, it is about all of us showing up, speaking up and caring deeply about the future we want to see for Mandurah.

"Thank you, Mandurah! Thank you to everyone who has walked this journey with me, to those who have believed in me, and to this incredible city that has shaped who I am. I am so grateful, and I will do everything I can to serve & lead you well."

In other results, Owen Mulder was elected as councillor in the Coastal Ward.

Daniel Wilkins retained his position in the East Ward while Jenny Green returns to council after an unsuccessful campaign in 2023.

Peter Jackson remains as a councillor in the North Ward and Ryan Burns and Dave Shumacher also kept their positions in the Town Ward.
