Asbestos discovery forces closure of Serpentine Jarrahdale tip

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has closed its tip until further notice after asbestos was found at the facility.

The potentially harmful material was discovered in the former active land fill area of the Watkins Road facility recently.

The Shire has since closed the waste transfer station as a precautionary measure.

“Preliminary testing and a thorough site walk over by Shire officers has identified undisturbed piecesof asbestos at surface level,” Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Cr Michelle Rich said.

“The health and safety of our staff and residents is our utmost priority, which is why we have made the decision to close the facility until further investigation is complete, and situation remediated."

The Shire has apologised for the inconvenience.
