Baldivis and Lakelands community gardens receive cash boost

Community gardens in Lakelands and Baldivis have received a cash boost from the State Government.

They are part of 12 community-based organisations from across Western Australia who will have garden projects brought to life thanks to the Community Gardens Grants Program which provides funding of up to $10,000 per project.

The funding can be used on a wide range of garden-related items and services, from plants, seedlings and fertiliser to planning, design and training services.

Community Services Minister Simone McGurk said the program has an emphasis on inclusiveness and accessibility, and community participation by individuals and organisations.

“Community gardening is a great way to bring people together at a local level while creating beautiful green spaces we can all enjoy," Minister McGurk said.

“The State Government grants will fund projects that allow organisations to take the first steps to establish a community garden or help existing gardens to flourish.

“Everybody should have the opportunity to enjoy these green spaces and it’s positive that grants will also fund projects that improve disability access to community gardens."

Grants are open to incorporated not-for-profit community organisations, local government authorities and community groups.

The Baldivis Community Garden received $4707.50 to design and build an accessible shade-house and install irrigation

The Lakelands Community Garden received a grant of $9977 to purchase raised garden beds, shade tunnels, wheel-chair gardening tables, soils and mulches.
