An eight-year-old Rockingham boy remains in a coma in Perth Children's Hospital after a quad bike accident in Bali.
Joshua Schuetz was airlifted back to Perth on Friday after undergoing emergency surgery in Bali for a fractured skull and brain bleed.
Family friend Bernice Ariasa provided an update on Joshy's condition via his GoFundMe page on Sunday.
"All I can give for updates currently is that he’s is back in Australia safe with his family he’s in hospital still in a coma but is breathing independently and this is a huge milestone in itself," she said.
Ms Ariasa said the family had top travel insurance with unlimited hospital cover however they did not read the fine print.
"Like all of us they didn’t read the fine print and assumed they were covered while abroad all inclusive… The insurance would not cover medical expenses due to the fact it happened on a quad bike."
Joshy was in Ubud with his family ahead of a soccer tournament with his team the Cockburn Wolves Futsal Club.
The young athlete was a pillion passenger on a quad bike being driven by his older brother when it flipped into a rice field on Wednesday afternoon.
The GoFundMe page has since raised over $120,000.
