Big crowds expected at Hands off Hall Park rally

Local residents in opposition of the proposed commercial development on Mandurah's Western Foreshore will come together this weekend, rallying to preserve Hall Park.

Hundreds of people are expected to join in the fight against the proposed microbrewery, mini-golf course and chocolate factory, instead wanting the A-class reserve to remain a green space.

The rally begins at the Mandurah Skate Park at 10am on Sunday, February 16.

Attendees are being asked to wear white shirts.

The rally comes after 170 people attended the City's Annual Electors Meeting on Monday where two motions were passed regarding the development.

The first motion called on the Council to rescind its previous decision to go ahead with the development and a vote be retaken.

"Council will now decide if it supports that motion at its next council meeting on February 25, and if they do, it would effectively put an end to the Western Foreshore development," Mandurah Mayor Caroline Knight said in a Facebook post.

The second motion passed was for proper consultation to take place with the Aboriginal community if the first motion is moved.

The City of Mandurah has asked people to be "fully informed" about the proposal "get the facts about the significant benefits" that the development will provide for the community via their website.

"This is an important decision on a major project for Mandurah, so please take the time to find out more about the Western Foreshore Leisure Precinct plan ahead of our meeting at the end of February," Mayor Knight said in her Facebook post.
