A 10-year-old boy has suffered life-threatening injuries after the car he was a passenger in crashed in Baldivis shortly after police allegedly tried to stop the vehicle.
Officers attempted to perform a routine traffic stop on a Ford Falcon on Duckpond Road around 6pm on Sunday, December 29.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and sped off in a southernly direction, before turning right onto Mundijong Road and colliding head-on with a Mitsubishi ute.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 60-year-old man, was conveyed to Rockingham Hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the Falcon, a 29-year-old man, and his 32-year-old female passenger were taken to Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
"A 10-year-old male passenger in the Ford Falcon was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital with critical injuries. An 8-year-old male passenger of the Ford Falcon was uninjured," a WA Police spokesperson said.
A 29-year-old Redcliffe man, who was the alleged driver of the Falcon, has been charged with a string of offences including reckless driving, dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, no authority to drive and using an unlicensed vehicle on a road.
He is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court today.
