Bunbury businesses destroyed in suspected tobacco war firebombing

Multiple businesses have been destroyed in a suspected firebombing in Bunbury.

Emergency services rushed to Spencer Street around 3.40am on Sunday, January 4 after a convenience store was set alight.

It is believed the store sold illegal vapes and tobacco.

Neighbouring businesses, a dentist and a beauty salon, were also severely damaged in the fire.

Owner of Allure Beauty & Co told 9News it was only a matter of time before something serious happened.

“We kind of knew that we were going to be collateral damage if something did escalate because of how close we are to each other, but never in my wildest dreams did we expect it to be to this extent,” she said.

“It’s shutdown our livelihoods. The dentist has been here for 32 years, we’ve been here for three years.

“The destruction in there is just insane, and it’s not going to be salvageable, we’ll literally be starting from scratch.”

The suspected arson attack is the latest of several across Perth linked to the illegal tobacco trade.
