City of Kwinana shared path now complete

The second stage of the Gilmore Avenue shared path is now open.

The three-metre-wide shared path now links Chisham Avenue to Wellard Road.

The project was jointly funded by the City of Kwinana and the State Government as part of the WA Bicycle Network Grants Program.

Mayor Peter Feasey said the shared path quickly became popular with school children riding or walking to Calista Primary School, and seniors from the nearby Banksia Park aged care facility and Callistemon Court Aged Persons Units.

“The combination of the two stages of the Gilmore Avenue Shared Path now provides a wide, safe linkage from Thomas Road all the way through to Wellard Road," he said.

“The City of Kwinana is thrilled our residents of Banksia Park now have a safe way to access Kwinana’s key shopping centre, and Calista Primary School recently held a Ride or Walk to School in Winter Day utilising the shared path.

“Replacing short car trips with walking, riding or scooting improves health and well-being, saves money and reduces traffic congestion and pollution while being a fun way to spend time with family and friends.
