Athletes, volunteers and clubs from across the community were recognised for their outstanding achievements at the City of Rockingham’s Sports Star Awards this week.
Hosted at the Gary Holland Community Centre on Wednesday, the awards acknowledged winners from local swimming, football/soccer, BMX, para-canoe and wheelchair basketball organisations.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels congratulated the finalists and winners on their accomplishments.
“The Sports Star Awards began in 1997 and have grown to become one of the premier events on the local sporting calendar,” Mayor Sammels said.
“Sport is a vital element in creating a physically and mentally healthy community and the Sports Star Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the athletes, clubs and volunteers who excel in their respective sporting codes.
“We have an active sporting community that thrives on the local, state, national and international sporting stage and I congratulate all of this year’s finalists and winners on their efforts."
