Community leader Liz Prescott announced as Mandurah's latest Local Legend

A community leader behind one of the city’s support organisations for children and young people is  Mandurah’s latest Local Legend. 

CHOYCES Chief Executive Officer Liz Prescott was recognised at this week’s Council meeting for the significant impact she’s had within the community helping to break the cycle of youth disengagement and disadvantage. 

CHOYCES (Children and Youth Community Services), which was formerly known as Peel Youth Services, is well known for supporting children, families, and young people in the community.

The organisation provides multiple programs including counselling and youth work, pregnancy support and care for new mothers, and programs for early years, children, and teenagers. 

Liz joined the team in 2018 and has played a major role in the organisation’s success, as well as making positive impacts on the lives of families and children within the community. 

Mayor Rhys Williams said Liz is a passionate advocate for children and families in the local area, and a standout community leader in ensuring young people have better access to support services. 

“Liz has been pivotal in identifying the need for a varied range of services and programs to meet the needs of people in Mandurah and beyond,” Mayor Williams said. 

“Her contribution to Mandurah through community outreach is truly admirable, having worked tirelessly to raise awareness of issues affecting people at many different life stages, and lobbying for better services and support. 

“Liz also understands the importance of building partnerships with other community organisations, government agencies and businesses to expand the services available, creating a more collaborative and cohesive community.” 

Liz was also the Chairperson of the Peel Community Development Group for three years and led the development of the recently released Peel Away the Mask III report
