Community pays tribute to local baseballer killed in motorcycle crash

Tributes are flowing for a local motorcycle rider who was killed in a crash on the Kwinana Freeway in Aubin Grove this week.

Rhysean Lee was riding his Harley-Davidson southbound on Wednesday afternoon when he collided with a blue GM ute travelling in the same direction near Rowley Road.

The driver of the ute was uninjured and stopped to help the critically injured 25-year-old.

Rhysean was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital where he tragically died.

His father Malcolm Lee said his "world was shattered" when he heard the news of his son's passing.

"Beautiful brother to Jayden Lee and friends to many. my heart is breaking so bad mate. the love i have for my sons will never fade no matter where you are. ill always love you my son. Rhysean Lee  ride high buddy," Mr Lee's Facebook post read.

Rhysean was also an avid baseball player and has been remembered by his club, Peel Diamond Sports, as a "beloved member" of the baseball community.

"Rhysean and his family have been pillars of our club and the wider Peel baseball community for many years. Whether it was coaching, umpiring, serving on club and charter committees, or simply lending a hand whenever needed - Rhysean gave his heart and soul to the game," Peel Diamond Sports said on their Facebook page.

"In honour of Rhysean’s and his family’s immense contribution and the friendship his family has shown so many of us, PDS will be wearing black armbands during our opening round as a mark of respect.

"We will also be collecting donations to support the Lee family during this incredibly difficult time and help with ongoing costs. Every contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated."

Rhysean was one of four people killed in separate crashes in WA in just 24 hours, pushing the State's road toll to 148, the highest level in a decade.

Commander Mike Peters from Road Policing said it is motorcyclists who are over represented in serious and fatal crashes.

"If you're going to go out riding a motorcycle this weekend or at anytime can I implore on you to understand your responsibility as a motorcycle rider and that you go out dressed appropriately, that you've had enough rest and you also understand that you're a vulnerable road user," he said.

"I'm not here to single out motorcycle riders but they do need to understand they're vulnerable road users and if something goes wrong, the chances of them being more seriously injured than anyone else or losing their life is more likely."
