Coodanup giant burnt to the ground

A wooden giant, part of the Giants of Mandurah exhibition, has been burnt to the ground.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Coodanup Foreshore Reserve on Peel Parade around 11.30pm on Friday to find the sculpture alight.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The sculptures were created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo with each giant taking him and his team around 750 hours to build.

The exhibition, a first of its kind for Australia, only opened on November 12.

Mandurah Detectives with the help of Arson Squad officers are investigating the cause of the fire.

Police urge anyone who has CCTV, mobile phone or dash-cam vision of the area between 10:30pm and 1:30am, or who has information relating to this fire, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
