Dawesville couple charged over alleged cruelty to sick, elderly dog

A Dawesville couple have been charged with animal cruelty offences after allegedly failing to seek vet treatment for their sick, elderly dog.

RPSCA WA inspectors attended the pair's home after receiving an animal cruelty report in March, 2025.

Inspectors described the 12-year-old American Bulldog as emaciated with his pelvis, ribs and spine clearly visible. 

The dog was also having difficulty supporting himself as his back legs were collapsing.

The accused, both aged 41, allegedly admitted they had not sought vet advice or treatment for their pet.

The dog was surrendered to the RSPCA and a subsequent vet examination found he had aggressive blood cancer, ears so chronically infected they were unable to be examined without the dog being sedated, a mass on his eye and suffering from muscle loss and musculoskeletal issues.

His condition was so severe he had to be euthanised.

The Dawesville couple are due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on October 28.
