WA Police are urging drivers to do the right thing over the Christmas period and stick to the road rules, as the state grapples with its worst road toll since 2016.
Double demerits are now in place until Sunday, January 5.
Police will be out in numbers targeting speeding, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, not wearing a seatbelt, distracted driving and fatigue.
It comes as the road toll in WA currently stands at 179.
Acting Commander of Road Policing Mike Peters urges motorists to drive safe during this holiday period.
“The message is simple, don’t speed. Every police vehicle across the state will be undertaking some form of enforcement and our safety camera fleet will also be out in force," Commander Peters said.
“One life lost on our roads is one too many, we urge everyone to drive safe this holiday season and keep in mind the safety of yourself and the safety of others.”
“Our officers do not want to knock on your door this Christmas to deliver the devastating and life changing news about the loss of a loved one on our roads. I urge you to drive carefully so everyone can come home safely."
