City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels has announced his retirement after 18 years at the helm.
Mr Sammels made the announcement via his Facebook page over the weekend confirming he would not be contesting the elections in October.
“Thank you Rockingham for the honour of serving you as Mayor for the last 18 years & 24 on Council,” his Facebook post read.
“My time is up & I will not be re contesting the October elections."
Deputy Mayor Deb Hamblin and councillors Lorna Buchan, Mark Jones and Craig Buchanan have all put their hat in the ring for the position.
