Footy fans travelling to Optus Stadium on Mandurah Line urged to plan ahead

Southern suburbs AFL fans with tickets to Sunday’s Fremantle v Brisbane clash at Optus Stadium are being urged to plan their journey around this weekend’s Mandurah Line disruption.

To facilitate essential work on METRONET’s Thornlie-Cockburn Link project, the Mandurah Line will be closed between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay stations from the evening of Thursday night, June 2 until first service on Tuesday, June 7.

Trains will be running between Aubin Grove and Mandurah stations at a reduced frequency. 

For fans taking public transport to the game, replacement buses will operate between Elizabeth Quay Bus Station and Aubin Grove.

People south of the disruption can catch the train to Aubin Grove, then board replacement bus Route 949, which runs express to Elizabeth Quay.

Those travelling between Aubin Grove and Perth should catch Route 909, which runs all stops between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay.

Transperth spokesman David Hynes said significant planning had gone into providing alternative public transport options during the disruption, but passengers would need to factor in extra travelling time. 

“Because our buses share the roads with other vehicles, journey times can be slightly longer than the train depending on traffic,” he said. 

“We encourage all passengers to plan their journey ahead of time and, for those travelling on the Mandurah Line, leave extra time to get to the match to ensure you don’t miss bouncedown.

“Also, remember that masks are mandatory on all Transperth services unless you have an approved exemption, and mask-wearing is encouraged while waiting at the station or bus stop.”
