Halls Head mother charged with careless driving over crash that killed twin daughters

A Halls Head mother is due to face court today, charged over a crash in the Wheatbelt that claimed the lives of her twin daughters.

Macey and Riley, aged 7, were in a Toyota Camry allegedly being driven by their mother along the Great Eastern Highway near Carrabin on February 18 when the vehicle veered off the road and into a tree.

The girls died at the scene while their 31-year-old mother Rachel van Oyen survived the accident and was taken to Merredin Hospital before being discharged later that day.

It's understood the trio had been visiting family in Kalgoorlie and were on their way back to Halls Head when the crash happened.

Macey and Riley were students at Halls Head Primary School.

On Sunday, Ms van Oyen was charged with two counts of careless driving causing death, grievous bodily harm or bodily harm.

She will appear before the Northam Magistrates Court today.
