Rebates of $50 are now available in the City of Kwinana for existing CCTV systems to be registered with Cam-Map WA.
In a WA first, the City of Kwinana has partnered with WA Police to provide $50 rebates when local businesses and residents register existing functioning CCTV systems with Cam-Map WA.
Cam-Map WA is a secure database that shows the locations of voluntarily registered CCTV systems across WA.
“The City of Kwinana's CCTV rebate scheme aims to increase the number of privately-owned CCTV cameras registered through the WA Police Cam-Map system to provide additional intelligence in the investigation and prevention of crime," Mayor Carol Adams said.
“This will also increase the level of communication and reporting from the community to WA Police."
Other Local Governments, like Karratha, have offered rebates for new CCTV systems while encouraging registrations with Cam-Map WA, but this is the first time rebates have been offered to incentivise the registration of existing CCTV systems.
Knowing the locations of installed CCTV systems will support WA Police in investigations.
Police will contact the resident or business owner for footage should an incident occur.
