Peter Wagener is walking for a cause tomorrow, travelling 74km from Perth to Mandurah to help raise awareness and much needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Peter will be taking the 91,500 steps to Mandurah in an effort to raise $50,000 to help the Foundation's mission in finding a cure by 2035.
Peter himself was diagnosed with the disease in February 2020, so the cause is close to his heart.
"I'm one of those people who goes and gets a full set of medicals every year and we picked up the leukaemia diagnosis extremely early," he said.
"After three sets of test it turned out to be chronic lymphocytic leukaemia which unfortunately is very high in people who travel a lot."
Statistics show around 47 Australians will be told they have blood cancer by the end of today.
"Lymphocytic leukaemia is from gamma radiation poisoning and it's very very low at the moment my readings," Peter continued.
"I thought while I'm really fit and healthy lets do what I can in order to go out there and do something to support the Leukaemia Foundation."
Peter's Walk for Leukaemia will begin at 3am tomorrow morning and end at the Mandurah Foreshore around 3pm.
"Go an get yourself checked out every year, I mean Australia has one of the best health systems in the world and it doesn't cost us much to get a full check up," he said.
"You could find something early."
