Lexus caught speeding on Forrest Highway used in road safety campaign

A Lexus which was forfeited to the State after the driver was caught speeding along the Forrest Highway is now being used as part of a road safety campaign ahead of the Australia Day long weekend.

It is hoped the You See, We See campaign will encourage motorists to think about safe driving and the forfeited vehicle serve as a visual reminder of the consequences of unsafe driving.

The Lexus IS350 was clocked travelling at 205km/h in March 2023 which is almost twice the posted speed limit of 110km/h.

The driver was convicted of reckless driving, fined $2000, disqualified from driving for six months and had his car forfeited to the State.  

Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner has warned of the dangers of speeding ahead of the Australia Day double demerits period, from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 January inclusive.  

“This example is at the extreme end of speeding but even low-level speeding adds unnecessary risk - speeding is not ok," he said.

“The ultimate consequence when it comes to speeding is death, but we know for many people the fear of getting caught can be more powerful in influencing their behaviour.  And if the consequence of getting caught is losing your car then the disincentive to speed is even stronger."

The Lexus, which now has personalised number plates '4FITED', will be sold after the campaign and the funds will go into the Road Traffic Trauma Account to be utilised to help make our roads safer.
