'Lifejacket saved my life' says kayaker rescued off Henderson

A man says his lifejacket saved his life after his kayak capsized off Henderson.

Cockburn Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue received a call from a member of the public on Thursday afternoon after they spotted the capsized kayak and a person in the water about a mile off the Naval Base shacks.

A rescue vessel was deployed and located the man who was alongside another kayaker who had launched from the beach after hearing the man's lifejacket whistle.

"We recovered the casualty onboard to discover a lure embedded through his shirt and into his forearm," a Cockburn Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue Facebook post read.

"After nearly an hour in the water the casualty was cold, but apart from a hook barb in the arm was okay and made his own way to hospital to have it removed."

The kayak was recovered which was taking on water and started the incident.
