Lotterywest funding supports attendance at Mandurah coastal conference

The City of Mandurah has received a $30,000 Lotterywest grant for the 2022 WA State Natural Resource Management and Coastal Conference, which will make it cheaper for people to attend the innovative environmental event.

The State NRM Conference will be held in Mandurah from September 20-22 in partnership with the City of Mandurah, the Shire of Murray and the Shire of Waroona.

This highly regarded event has been held regularly since the 1990s, focusing on the challenges and opportunities in planning and managing natural
resources.

The event focuses on maximising networking opportunities and includes an engaging program of field trips, conference sessions, presentations and a variety of session styles.

Based at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, the conference will bring together environmental managers, coastal planners, practitioners, volunteers, Traditional Custodians and businesses to share knowledge and experience about coastal and natural resource management.

Mayor Rhys Williams said the conference would highlight Mandurah’s unique and highly valued environment, and help to discover new and meaningful ways of working together to support natural assets.

“We’re proud to be holding the Conference in Mandurah as it’s a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful natural environment, and areas throughout the region, to other environmentally minded people,” Mayor Williams said.

“It’s a great chance to collaborate with environmental experts and our neighbouring local governments in an innovative approach to the management of our resources and coastal management. There is a really immersive and diverse program on offer, so I encourage everyone to get involved.

“I’d like to recognise our event partners the Shire of Murray and Shire of Waroona, plus the WA Government and WALGA, and thank Lotterywest for this funding, which will go towards subsidised tickets to attend the event, plus general event support.”

With the overarching conference themes of Building Resilience through Innovation, sub-themes will include Adaption and Innovation in a Changing World; Our Coast, Our Land; Healthy Systems, Healthy People; and Collaboration and Partnerships.

Applications for discounted tickets to the event are now open, with eligibility including people facing financial hardship, people from remote or regional WA, staff and volunteers with non-profit/charitable organisations, youth or students, persons who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, and people with other barriers to attendance.
