A 31-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating his nine-week-old puppy.
RSPCA WA received a cruelty report in April, where the man, who was living in Rockingham at the time, allegedly punched the Staffy Kelpie cross in the face.
"During the RSPCA’s investigation into the cruelty report, it was revealed that in March the man had allegedly thrown scissors at the puppy before hitting him forcefully twice with a clenched fist and throwing him across the room," an RSPCA WA spokesperson said.
RSPCA WA seized the puppy who is currently in foster care.
The animal cruelty charges will be heard in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on August 25.
The maximum penalty for a charge of animal cruelty is a $50,000 fine and five years in prison.
The RSPCA relies on the community to report incidents of suspected cruelty and neglect.
