Man jailed for abducting school girl in Warnbro

A man has been jailed for 11 years after he lured a nine-year-old girl into his car in Warnbro.

The victim was walking to school on July 21 last year when Ryan Ashley Darken told her he was looking for a lost puppy and asked her to help find it.

When she said she wasn't meant to speak to strangers, Darken said he wasn't a stranger and was her friend's father.

The girl then got into his car and was driven to bushland in Port Kennedy.

The court hear she began screaming when Darken covered her mouth and eyes with duct tape and cable-tied her wrists together.

The 39-year-old told her to "shut up, or I'll hurt you really bad". 

Darken then drove her to Port Kennedy IGA and gave her $5 to buy him Coke.

He then drove away.

The girl, who was crying and distressed, was helped by shoppers.

Darken was later arrested in Warnbro after a parent at the school witnessed the girl getting into his car and wrote down the number plate.

He was sentenced to 11 years and four months behind bars and will be eligible for parole after serving nine years and four months.
