Mandurah Council accepts $6.7M quote for MARC roof replacement

The City of Mandurah has voted unanimously to accept a quote of $6.7 million for the design and construction of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) roof replacement.

Council accepted PCB Contractors as the preferred respondent for the replacement of the damaged roof above the 25-metre indoor pool, which has been closed since May 2021.

Mayor Rhys Williams said he was pleased there was now a way forward to get the indoor pool back open to the public. 

“Given the current pressures within the WA construction industry, we’ve faced many challenges in this project. We’re happy that we are now on the road towards fixing the issue,” he said. 

“The MARC is such an important and integral facility for many people in our community, and we look forward to having the indoor pool avalaible again as soon as possible.” 

An insurance payout is expected to cover the cost of the roof replacement along with $2.5 million from the City's Asset Management Reserve.

The insurance claim has been accepted by the insurer but the final settlement amount will not be known for several months

The City will now work on confirming a timeline for the replacement works and re-opening of the 25m pool.

In the coming weeks, a temporary acoustic wall will be installed at the Leisure Pool which will be in place during the construction period.
