Full services on the Mandurah Line have resumed.
Because of bushfires burning on both sides of the line from Rockingham to Wellard, trains services have been severely disrupted since about 2pm yesterday.
For most of yesterday afternoon and right through the night, trains could go no further south than Cockburn Central. Replacement buses were provided, but they struggled to cope with afternoon peak crowds.
The bottom part of the line came back into service overnight, with trains running between Mandurah and Rockingham, and between Perth and Cockburn, and replacement buses servicing the middle section of the line.
Because of DFES concerns about the structural integrity of several fire-damaged trees near the line, they did not release the middle section until early this afternoon. PTA technicians then checked the track, overhead lines and other infrastructure and cleared it for use.
Trains ran through at slow speed in each direction around 1.30pm, and normal services resumed at 2pm.
