Mandurah Train Line on track to re-open on January 15

The Mandurah Train Line is on track to re-open on January 15 as works continue on the METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn link.

Almost 500 workers have removed three kilometres of rail tracks on the Mandurah Line between Cockburn Central Station and Glen Iris Tunnel to make way for the new Thornlie-Cockburn Link tracks to be laid.

Overhead lines are also currently being installed.

The train line has been closed between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay since Boxing Day, with 40,000 passengers boarding replacement buses so far.

“We are now halfway through the biggest public transport shutdown we have ever had in Perth," Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

“I’d like to thank passengers for their patience, and everyone involved in the project, from the workers on the ground to our bus drivers, for all of their hard work during this time. 

“We know it is frustrating and disruptive for some people, and we apologise for this."
