Mike Barnett Sports Complex set for $10m upgrade

The State Government will put $10 million towards upgrades at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex in Rockingham.

As part of the project, $2 million will be given to the City of Rockingham to replace the exisiting roof of the facility along with upgrades which will address poor ventilation for a number of courts.

A further $8 million has been allocated towards the construction of new courts for a range of sports including basketball, netball, volleyball and others, supplying the local community with more indoor sports facilities. 

The upgrades will help meet the growing demand for courts in the wider Rockingham area and ensure that the existing complex remains fit for purpose.

"I am delighted that, through strong and disciplined financial management, my Government has been able to deliver $10 million towards the upgrade of the Mike Barnett Sports Complex," Premier Roger Cook said.

"The Mike Barnett Sports Complex is a much-loved Rockingham community asset and this upgrade will ensure that local residents will enjoy the facilities for years to come."

Planning for the new courts will progress in partnership with the City of Rockingham and local sporting organisations, including the Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association.
