New fire station to be built in Cardup

Cardup will be the home of Western Australia's newest career fire station.

The $14.5 million project is in response to a growing population in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale with more than 32,000 people now residing in the area.

Once complete, the new fire station will be fitted out with new appliances and equipment and 36 career firefighters will be based at the new station, which will support the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) to maintain rapid response times. 

Local architects Iredale Pedersen Hook have been engaged to design the new station, which will focus on operational efficiency, workplace safety and firefighter wellbeing. The station will also feature an outdoor fitness space and quiet areas for downtime and recovery. 

"This is an important election commitment for my Government as it builds on our significant investments in mitigation activities and strengthens our firefighting capabilities in growing communities," Premier Mark McGowan said.

"The new Cardup Fire Station will mean 36 of our career firefighters will have access to modern and cutting-edge facilities, equipment and technology, which will help them to respond to emergencies quicker and more efficiently."

Construction is expected to begin towards the middle of next year, with an estimated completion date of 2024.
