Peel region bakery, breweries share in Federal Government energy grants

Five small and medium food and beverage manufacturers in the Peel region have received Federal Government grants to help cut their energy costs.

Boundary Island Brewery, Wedgetail Brewing, Miami Bakehouse, Thorny Devil Brewery and Spinifex Brewery have shared in $120,000 through the food and beverage round of the Energy Efficient Communities program.

The funding will help lower their power bills and reduce emissions by upgrading to more energy efficient appliances, carrying out energy audits and installing energy monitoring equipment. 

Member for Canning Andrew Hastie said funding for local businesses in the Peel region will go a long way to cutting costs and growing jobs.

“Mandurah is growing, and with it local businesses in the food and beverage industry, but the cost of power can really hold back growth,” Mr Hastie said.

“This investment is going to help these businesses to thrive and grow, creating more jobs and opportunities for locals.”
 
The Energy Efficient Communities Food and Beverage Manufacturing Business Grants program opened in January 2022, for grants of between $10,000 and $25,000 available to food and beverage manufacturing businesses with under 200 employees.
