Peel Thunder announces inaugural wheelchair footy team

Peel Thunder has announced the formation of their first ever All Abilities Wheelchair Football Team.

The team, led by wheelchair footballer Brock Steele, will join the WA All Abilities Wheelchair Football League for the 2025 season.

Brock has been involved in the sport for several years and has been a driving force in establishing the new program at Peel Thunder.

“Wheelchair football is about the same thing as any other level of footy, it’s about putting on the jumper and representing our colours,” Brock said.

“It’s not just about ability, it’s about community."

Brock will work alongside Thunder Vice President Chris Fairman who will manage the team.

The 2025 WA All Abilities Football League season starts on September 27, 2025.

The season will run for 12 weeks, with all participating clubs playing their matches in Claremont.

Wheelchair football is played on a basketball court with goalposts either end.

Each team fields five players at a time, with squads rotating throughout the game to allow for maximum participation.

The rules have been adapted to suit the format: a handball equates to a ‘kick’, and an underarm throw is considered a ‘handball.’

Peel Thunder are now looking for players to join the side with tryout days to be announced soon.

You do not need to have a disability to take part.

The league is open to people of all ages, genders, and abilities, and encourages a mix of players with and without disabilities.
