Pilot killed in Great Southern plane crash

A pilot has died in a plane crash in the Great Southern.

Police were called around 2.35pm on Saturday after the single-seat yellow and black recreational aircraft crashed into a paddock on a private farming property on Nyabing-Pingrup Road in Pingrup. 

The pilot, a 55-year-old Pingrup man, was initially trapped but people at the scene, including motorists who stopped to assist, were able to free him from the wreckage and provided emergency first aid.

Police and St John Ambulance personnel attended the scene, and it was confirmed the man was deceased.

The aircraft will be seized for further examination to assist with determining the cause of the crash.

Aviation authorities have been made aware of the crash and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
