Police shoot dead family dog after owners attacked in Baldivis

Police have shot dead a family dog after it attacked its owners in Baldivis.

Officers were called to the home on Vernon Gough Drive around 6.40pm on Sunday after receiving reports the Blue Heeler named Ace had bitten one of its owners on the arm and throat.

When police arrived, the dog attacked another two family members.

"Due to the extremely aggressive nature of the dog a police firearm was discharged two times to stop the attack. Given the injuries the dog received a third shot was fired to euthanise the dog and prevent it from suffering any further," a WA Police spokesperson said.

It's understood Ace had been adopted by the family just over a month ago and had recently been castrated.

He was still wearing a cone at the time of the attack.

Speaking to 7News, the owners said they are traumatised.

"It's going to take a long time to get over, we're still in shock," she said.

"It was just horrific, I've never been so scared in my life.

"Just to see the dog lunge at Steve, at my daughter and at me, there was blood everywhere...it was a bloodbath." 

A man in his 50s received multiple bite wounds to his neck, chin and one of his arms, his wife suffered bite wounds to her legs and their 18-year-old daughter had multiple bite wounds on her arm.

All three were taken by ambulance to Rockingham Hospital.
