A man who spent five hours on the roof of a service station in Kwinana has been charged.

The 35-year-old allegedly approached the front window of the BP on Chisham Avenue around 2.50am on Wednesday, April 8 while in possession of a multi-tool knife.

He then allegedly climbed onto the roof of the service station.

"Police resources, including negotiators and the Tactical Response Group, along with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and St. John Ambulance, were deployed to the scene to safely bring the man down," a WA Police spokesperson said.

"While on the roof, it will be further alleged the man obstructed emergency service personnel by refusing to come down and caused damage to both the roof and DFES equipment.

"About 8am, the man was brought down and subsequently apprehended."

The man has since been charged with two counts of criminal damage, being armed in a way that may cause fear, trespass and obstructing public officers.

He is due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 8.
