A new day surgery hospital has been proposed for Mandurah.
Current operators of Peel Health Campus, Ramsay Health Care, have submitted an application for the $24.6 million development which would be built on Lakes Road in Greenfields near the existing hospital if approved.
Stage one of the Ramsay Peel Surgical Centre would include three theatre rooms and one procedure room, a pre-operation room and recovery rooms on the ground floor.
Stage two would see a 12 bed surgical ward built on the second storey.
"Whilst the majority of use will simply be minor day surgeries, the Peel Day Hospital proposes to be in operation 24 hours a day, 7
days a week, to allow medical staff to provide care for patients that may have to stay at the hospital overnight," the planning report read.
"The development itself has been architecturally designed by renowned architects STH Architects who have designed a contemporary building that is welcoming, but clearly fit for purpose as a surgical centre."
Parking would include 37 visitor bays at the front of the facility and 45 staff parking bays at the rear.
Once stage one and two are completed there would be up to 45 staff at peak operation including up to 26 physicians and nurses and 19 support staff.
The community are invited to submit their thoughts on the proposal in writing to the City of Mandurah via email to planning@mandurah.wa.gov.au.
The proposal will then be referred to the Joint Development Assessment Panel who will determine if the development will go ahead.
