Rockingham Hospital one of 12 to be impacted when nurses stop work

Rockingham General Hospital will be one of 12 public hospitals across the state set to be impacted next week when several nurses stop work.

The day-long stoppages will be staggered over two weeks between 7am and 9pm.

They are due to begin on Wednesday, November 16 at Fiona Stanley Hospital, following by Rockingham Hospital on Thursday, November 17.

Union nurses are ramping up their fight for better conditions and a pay rise.

Currently the State Government has offered a three per cent pay rise and a one-off payment of $3000, but the Australian Nursing Federation is calling on a five per cent pay increase.

"I'm sure the nurses and midwives will appreciate a day off work," ANF chief executive Mark Olson said.

"They won't be coming to work, there won't be any rallies or meetings out the front of the hospital, they just simply won't be there." 

Premier Mark McGowan is urging nurses not to walk off the job and insists a three per cent pay rise is acceptable. 

"That would just be a terrible consequence," Mr McGowan said.

"They've actually won, sometimes people don't know when they've won but they've won."
