Rockingham man charged after allegedly making 119 abusive calls to AFP in two days

A Rockingham man has been charged after allegedly making 119 abusive phone calls to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

Police will allege the man made multiple abusive, offensive and harassing phone calls to the AFP between January 14 and January 15.

On Saturday January 15, the AFP arrested the man at his Rockingham home and seized his mobile phone.

The 43-year-old appeared in the Northbridge Magistrates Court on Sunday charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offence.

Acting Commander Western Command Graeme Marshall said the charge makes it clear no one should be harassed or threatened in the line of duty.

"It is vital for our staff to be able to perform their important work in safety and without harassment or abuse," Acting Commander Marshall said.

"The AFP has a zero tolerance for those who would seek to menace our people and these charges are a reflection of this.

"These types of calls also waste valuable police resources and prevent staff from dealing with legitimate calls from the public."
