A Romanian national has been charged following an investigation into several alleged ATM card skimming incidents across various suburbs between Rockingham and Mandurah.
On September 23, police received reports of unauthorised cash withdrawals from the accounts of several customers of a national bank.
The account holders still had their bank cards in their possession when the transactions occurred.
On September 30, Financial Crime Squad detectives arrested a man at a property in Clarkson.
During a search of the property, police seized a number of items including a large quantity of gift cards, a digital card reader and equipment linked to the creation and use of identification materials.
As the investigation continued, police received further reports from two other banks involving more victims.
"So far, investigators have identified 20 separate incidents involving ATMs across Perth, mainly in the Mandurah District, including Rockingham, Baldivis, Mandurah, Port Kennedy, Secret Harbour, Kwinana and Warnbro," a WA Police spokesperson said.
"Additional incidents have also been reported in Kardinya, Belmont, Fremantle and Cannington."
The 37-year-old man has been charged with 14 counts of possession of identification equipment with intent to commit an offence, 15 counts of stealing, three counts of attempted stealing and one count of giving false personal details to police.
Anyone with information about similar incidents is asked to contact Stoppers online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au or call 1800 333 000.
Anyone who believes they may be a victim of card skimming are also encouraged to contact their bank.
