Time running out to vote in local government elections

Time is running out for community members to vote in the WA local government elections.

Western Australians have until 6pm on Saturday to get their vote in.

It is now too late to mail back postal ballots but residents can still hand deliver their completed election packages to their local council office or polling place.

“Local governments make decisions about a range of things that affect people’s day to day living, from footpaths and waste collection to events and parks,” Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy said.

“Local government elections are being held all over the state and this is your opportunity to have a say about what matters to you in your community.

“Completed postal ballots must be returned to the WA Electoral Commission by 6pm this Saturday. Anything received after this time won’t be counted. 

“At the last local government election, more than 14,000 people missed out on having their votes counted because their ballots were received too late."

Voting in a local government election is not compulsory but is encouraged.
