Tough conditions prove too much for blind swimmer Jeremy McClure

Tough weather conditions have forced blind Paralympic swimmer Jeremy McClure to call off his 80km swim to Cottesloe.

Jeremy set off from Doddi's Beach in Halls Head around 8am on Saturday.

Him and his team battled 30km/h winds all day, still managing to swim 46km along the coast to the Kwinana refinery. 

"At around midnight Jeremy has called off the attempt to swim from Mandurah to Cottesloe," his Facebook post read.

"It was a tough day on the water with 30km winds battering us all afternoon and early evening and unfortunately the ocean won this round!

"Jeremy wants to thank everyone who was a part of this, and all who donated to Guide Dogs WA! He swam 46km, made it to the Kwinana refinery.

"More details to come after he has a shower and sleep."

Jeremy managed to swim 46km before calling off the swim. 

Jeremy has completed 11 solo Rottnest Channel swims.

He was also the first person to swim from Dirk Hartog Island to Denham in February 2022 and just six months ago he set another record, swimming from the Abrolhos Islands to Geraldton.

"I want to demonstrate to people both able bodied and disabled that anything is possible and there is always a way around achieving something, no matter the obstacles," he said.

Jeremy's latest swim raised over $8500 for Guide Dogs WA.
