Waikiki man's Ducati impounded after caught travelling at 232km/h along South Western Highway

A Waikiki man has been caught allegedly travelling at 120km/h over the speed limit on his Ducati motorcycle.

The 25-year-old was allegedly clocked speeding at 232km/h along the South Western Highway in Mardella on March 3.

He was charged by summons for reckless driving and his motorbike impounded for 28 days.

In April, Operation Walton was launched, focusing on motorcycles in the metropolitan and regional areas.

"This highlights the importance of motorcycle safety on our roads, with motorcycle fatal crashes representing approximately 38 per cent of fatal crash this year to date," a WA Police spokesperson said.

"This week is Road Safety Week, as 62 people have sadly lost their lives on West Australian roads so far this year. 

"In the past five years, speeding has been found to be the primary cause of fatal crash, followed by intoxication (alcohol/drugs), distraction, fatigue and failure to wear a seatbelt. 

"In light of Road Safety Week, WA Police encourage everyone to remain safe on our roads."
