Waikiki P-plater charged with reckless driving along Kwinana Freeway

A Waikiki P-plater and and another man have been charged with reckless driving after allegedly being caught travelling at high speeds along the Kwinana Freeway.

A white Holden Commodore sedan and a white BMW 3 Series sedan were allegedly captured travelling at 188km/h and 212km/h respectively by a mobile radar heading south near Mortimer Road in Wellard about 11.40pm on Friday, January 16.

The vehicles were detected within one second of each other.

The drivers have since been charged with reckless driving speed of 155km/h or more and both vehicles have been impounded.

A 26-year-old man from Seville Grove is due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court on February 4 and a 19-year-old Waikiki man will appear before the same court on January 30.

Superintendent Michael Dalla-Costa from Road Policing Command said the actions were appalling and demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of other road users. 

“Driving at these extreme speeds is dangerous, irresponsible and entirely unacceptable," he said.

“Behaviour of this nature places every person on the road at immediate risk of serious injury or death and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. 

“Those who choose to drive in this manner should expect to face significant consequences, including charges and the loss of their vehicles.”
