WA's first public National War & Service Animal Day commemoration to be held at Dawesville War Memorial

Western Australia's first National War & Service Animal Day commemoration will be held at the Dawesville War Memorial this week.

The service, on Tuesday, February 24 at 10am, will honour animals that have served in military conflicts — from horses, donkeys, mules and camels, to dogs and pigeons.

“The purpose of the service is to honour the service and sacrifice of animals in military conflicts and appreciation for those who continue to serve our veterans,"  RSL Dawesville President Brett Lee said.

Attending the service will be representatives from the 10th Light Horse Group and veteran assistance dogs.

Veterans and members of the public with assistance or retired service dogs are encouraged to attend.

A brief service including wreath laying will be held followed by a sausage sizzle.
