Police have released body-worn camera footage of the moment an elderly couple were pulled from their burning car near Harvey.
The man and woman in their 80s were travelling along the South Western Highway on March 12 when their vehicle towing a caravan rolled and caught on fire.
The video shows two police officers, senior constable Kylie Jones and probational constable Reece Josemans, breaking the windscreen of the vehicle and dragging the occupants to safety.
“I remember just making eye contact with the two occupants," Constable Josemans said.
“At that point in time, I didn’t know how they were going to come out but I knew I had to find a way.
“I remember the feeling of the fire, it was the most unbearable (feeling) ... you know you’ve got to get them out.”
Yarloop police officer-in-charge Sgt Wayne Byram said the heroic actions of the police officers saved the lives of the couple.
"The car had 125 litres of petrol on it and also two gas bottles with the caravan," he said.
"In about 90 seconds the fuel tank did go up and it just shook the ground.
"If it weren't for the actions of the officers that attended then we'd potentially be dealing with a double fatal on South Western Highway."
The man suffered burns to his face while the woman escaped with just minor injuries.
