Wild weather forces cancellation of Pinjarra Festival

Wild weather has forced the cancellation of this weekend's iconic Pinjarra Festival.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, the Shire of Murray said it was a difficult decision to make.

"As at 5am today, the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a 95 per cent chance of rain, which is expected to be up to 35mm on both Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June. There is also a chance of thunderstorm with winds up to 35 km/h," a Shire of Murray spokesperson said.

"The risks associated with setting-up and hosting a community event in such conditions has meant the festival cannot go ahead.  

"While it was an extremely hard decision to make, the Shire believes this is the responsible choice."

The Pinjarra Festival is Murray’s largest, free community event with more than 20,000 people attending over the WA Day Long Weekend.

"There are many people involved in the successful delivery of the event," the Shire said.

"The Shire sends its sincerest gratitude to all involved in the planning and preparation of the 2024 event, and thanks vendors and event sponsors for their ongoing support.

"We look forward to bringing you the Pinjarra Festival in 2025, bigger and better than ever before."
