Woman charged for allegedly refusing to wear a mask and tearing up a move on order

Police have charged a woman after she allegedly refused to wear a mask on two separate occasions during the three-day Perth and Peel lock down period.

The 56-year-old first came to the attention of police on Sunday April 25, when officers located her on Barrack Street not wearing a face mask.

Police said they provided her with a face mask and advised she was required to wear one before she allegedly threw it back to the responding officers. 

The woman was issued with a move on order, which she is accused of tearing up up and throwing back at the officers.

She was subsequently arrested and charged with fail to obey order given by an officer and obstructing public officers.

She is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates court on those charges on Tuesday June 1.

Two days later, officers located the same woman allegedly not wearing a face mask at a shopping mall on Hay Street.

Police approached her, explained the face mask requirement to her and again offered her a free face mask.

It will be alleged the woman refused to wear the face mask and threw it back at the officers.

In this second instance, The 56-year-old was charged with fail to comply with a direction and appeared in the Northbridge Magistrates Court yesterday.
