Youths avoid prosecution over Comet Bay College assaults

Two youths have avoided prosecution over the alleged assault of a number of students at a Secret Harbour high school.

Police allege on Monday February 13, and Tuesday February 14, multiple students were set upon by the two teenage boys at Comet Bay College.

Luckily, no one was injured.

It's understood one of the boys is a student of the college but had already been suspended due to misbehaviour.

As a result of an investigation by Mandurah Police, a 14-year-old boy was referred to the Juvenile Justice Team for the offences of going armed in public, common assault and trespass. 

Juvenile Justice Teams are an alternative way to handle young people who have committed offences, diverting them from court.

A 16-year-old boy was issued with a written caution for the offence of common assault.

Department of Education Director General Lisa Rodgers said the incident was a "very serious matter".

“When violence occurs at schools, it is always responded to swiftly. This includes working with police when necessary, which is the case in this instance.
 
“Staff and students have a right to be safe at school and it is completely unacceptable for anyone to enter school grounds without permission."
