'Bunbury Bullet' wins bronze in Paris Paralympics

A young swimmer dubbed the 'Bunbury Bullet' has won a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics.

Alex Saffy set a new Oceanic record in the men's 100m butterfly S10 coming in a third with a time of 56.61 seconds.

The 18-year-old made the tough decision to move to Canberra from Bunbury when he was just 16 to take up a scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

Saffy, who has cerebral palsy, was emotional after his race.

"I left my home town in WA, two hours south of Perth, moved over to Canberra, I didn't know anyone, I had just turned 16," he told Nine.

"I left my family and I barely get to see them, it was just a lot of sacrifice and I'm just glad my family's here because I love them a lot."
