The new Calista bike skills track is now open for children to enjoy during the school holidays.
Mayor Carol Adams said works began in March on a 200m track designed to help toddlers and preschoolers learn road rules and safe cycling behaviours.
“The bike skills track includes mini traffic lights, traffic signs, pedestrian and zebra crossings, speed bumps, and park-and-play areas for young riders,” Mayor Adams said.
“The track also includes an imaginative play charging station to ‘top up’ their bike or scooter.
“It is free to use and includes a barbecue and small patio area with a drink fountain, nestled among the trees adjacent to The Edge skatepark on the way to the award-winning Kwinana Adventure Park which has public toilets,” she said.
Premier and Kwinana MLA Roger Cook said the bike track would be a fantastic new addition for families in Kwinana.
“Not only is this new track fun for families, but it will also help to teach important bike safety skills to keep our kids safe on the road,” Mr Cook said.
“I’m proud to continue to deliver on my Government’s election commitments for the people of Kwinana.”
The track was funded using a grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and CulturalIndustries secured by Mr Cook as an election commitment, along with funding from the RAC and the City of Kwinana.
