Western Australians will soon be able to access to their drivers' licences on their phones.
The State Government has allocated $28.2 million in the State Budget to digitise drivers' licences and state identity cards.
The digital credentials will be available in the ServiceWA app which is set to increase convenience and reduce paperwork.
"These changes are designed around how people live and work today. Having key credentials available digitally means less paperwork, fewer delays, and greater convenience for individuals, employers and organisations who rely on them every day," Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson said.
“By providing these services digitally we are making them easier for people to access whilst lowering the chances of theft and fraud."
A trial will begin in mid-2027 with the full system to be rolled out by the end of next year.
Digital licences will be optional with physical cards still available.
